MY personal experience with ayurveda…

  • "Without proper diet, medicine is of no use. With proper diet, medicine is of no need." Learning to incorporate a diet that is appropriate for my constitution was so beneficial for me. Kapha dosha is made up of elements of earth and water so eating foods that are lighter, not too watery, is helpful for pacifying Kapha. Another concept surrounding diet is understanding the qualities of each dosha. For example, Kapha qualities are heavy, cold, soft, oily, sweet, stable, and sticky. So, limiting my intake of foods with these same qualities helps to keep me balanced. "Without proper diet, medicine is of no use. With proper diet, medicine is of no need." • Learning TM or transcendental meditation is one of the fundamental practices of MAV that has also been beneficial to my wellness journey. One of The key aspects of TM that makes it unique is that the practice is effortless. During TM the mind is drawn toward pure consciousness. Since practicing I have been more creative, happier, less stressed and feeling really connected with Self and other.

  • We all know the benefit of exercise, but MAV taught me that exercising at the improper times or doing exercises that were not supportive to my dominant dosha was actually creating an imbalance. Again, because of the dominance of Kapha, I need exercises that allow me to sweat, which helps remove toxins. Also the best times of day for me to exercise is during Vata or Pitta hours to help reduce Kapha. This is the principle of opposites that MAV uses for pacification and balance.
